MANCHESTER – On November 28th, 2019, ASM started Thanksgiving bright and early in preparation for the 83rd Annual Manchester Road Race. Ambulance Service of Manchester has been providing medical support coverage along with Manchester Fire & Rescue EMS since 1991. ASM also coordinates and oversees all medical communications on race day and is proud to be a part of this historic tradition.
This weekend, Ambulance Service of Manchester will be collecting food at the following locations for our 11th Annual “Emergency of Hunger Food Drive. We hope to see you soon!
Team ASM-Aetna, under direction of our Reimbursement Manager and Chair of PurpleStride CT ( Affiliate of Pancreatic Cancer Action Network), Amy Griskus, wore purple today to help raise awareness about the disease. Wethersfield: On Thursday November 14h, Ofc . DiLoreto (WPD) and Lt. Buonanducci (SWPD), both members of the Capitol Region Emergency Services Team, along with Aetna Ambulance personnel, helped Cub Scout Pack 33 with first aid training. The Scouts learned about common medical emergencies, how to safely help others, and how to call for assistance in preparation for their upcoming hike. The Scouts also toured the armored vehicle and ambulance.

First responders and other volunteers in Manchester, South Windsor and Vernon will be collecting food and cash donations to stock area food pantries, starting in Manchester on Saturday and Sunday.
Coordinated by the Ambulance Service of Manchester, the Emergency of Hunger Food Drive is in its 11th year. This year, Highland Park Market is joining the effort, hosting collections at the Manchester store, food drive spokesman Patrick Gleason said.
Along with police officers, firefighters and ambulance crews, participants include the Manchester Area Conference of Churches, Hockanum Valley Community Council, South Windsor Food and Fuel Bank, Police Explorers and Rotary Club members.
On Saturday and Sunday, volunteers will be collecting turkeys, chickens, non-perishable food items, cash and gift cards at Highland Park Market, 317 Highland St., and Stop & Shop supermarket, 318 West Middle Turnpike. Collections on both days are scheduled for 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Collections are to continue on Nov. 23 and 24 at both Manchester locations and at the South Windsor Stop & Shop, 1739 Ellington Road; Geissler’s supermarket in South Windsor, 965 Sullivan Ave.; Stop & Shop in Vernon, 10 Pitkin Road; and the Stop & Shop in the Rockville section of Vernon, 50 Windsorville Road.

SOUTH WINDSOR – On Monday, November 11, 2019 ASM EMT’s Jenna Kinghorn and Justin Craig visited Station 3 of South Windsor Fire Department to assist the FD with a local school visit. During the event, over 80 2nd grade children participated in a discussion covering both medical and fire related emergencies and had the opportunity to tour the ambulance and fire apparatuses.
EAST HARTFORD – On Tuesday, November 5th ASM partnered with the students and faculty from Pathways Academy of Technology and Design. The team received points towards the next competition by participating in this safety related course. ASM is a proud sponsor of the 2019/2020 “Birds of Prey” robotics team season.

HARTFORD- On Sunday, October 27th, Aetna Ambulance, along with numerous local sponsors, participated in “Connecticut’s largest Halloween Trick or Treat” community event at Dunkin’ Donuts Park. Thousands of children and families attended the second annual event.
MANCHESTER- On October 21st and 22nd, Ambulance Service of Manchester hosted NETEC (National Ebola Training and Education Center) for a one day program designed for Emergency Medical Services. This program teaches the participant how to identify a potentially infectious patient and how to safely handle and transport them. During the class, participants learned how to prepare their ambulance and how to properly don and doff protective gear, including the PAPR (Powered Air Purifying Respirator). Multiple agencies participated in this training and ASM would like to thank the Connecticut Department of Public Health for sponsoring it. For more information on NETEC, please CLICK HERE.
MANCHESTER- On Monday October 14th, 2019 Ambulance Service of Manchester hosted its fourth American Red Cross Blood Drive at ASM’s headquarters. Numerous employees, friends, family, and community members participated in the day-long event. ASM has committed to hosting a drive at least twice a year. Thank you to all of the new and returning donors and we look forward to the next event!
