MANCHESTER — On April 10, 2012 the Ambulance Service of Manchester (ASM) promoted two from within its EMT ranks to the post of Field Training Officer: Stephanie Boutot and Ray Stovall.\u00a0FTOs are utilized primarily to train newly hired employees in the performance of their duties as EMTs. ASM’s Stephanie Boutot<\/p><\/div>\n

Stephanie Boutot:\u00a0<\/strong>I am a proud mom of five kids: Andrew, Dylan, Joey, Jeremy, and Zoey. I have been married 20 years to my husband and friend Nelson and was a stay-at-home mom before joining the ASM team almost four years ago (August 15, 2008 and I bring cake or cupcakes every anniversary!) I originally became an EMT to volunteer on my local fire department and found out it could be a paid job. I feel like it was a secret, I wish I had learned about sooner. I love the people I work with, the job, and knowing that I can make a difference in somebody’s life. I feel very lucky to have a job I enjoy doing and look forward to going to.\u00a0I like to be prepared for almost anything (I keep a nasal cannula in my pocket and have surprised a few with that). I have been called The Happy EMT<\/em>.<\/p>\n

ASM’s Ray Stovall<\/p><\/div>\n

Ray Stovall:\u00a0<\/strong>I have been an EMT for six\u00a0and a half years. I started off my career in EMS as a volunteer firefighter in West Stafford where I am currently a lieutenant and training officer. I’ve been with my wife for 12 years and we have a two year old daughter and a son due any day now. Training is one of my passions and I hope to pass on some of the random facts I’ve picked up to those willing to hear them.<\/p>\n

The FTO and new employee spend at least five shifts together, with an EMT partner who acts as a driver. During this time the new employee learns the ins and outs of the job done the ASM or Aetna way, including clinical skills, operations, radios, facilities, equipment and much more. FTOs are selected for their knowledge of the company, their positive attitude, willingness to teach and dedication to quality.
