Aetna’s Matt Campbell

HARTFORD — My name is Matthew Campbell. I’m 22 years old and a Connecticut and Massachusetts registered paramedic as I’m originally from Boston. Read about Matt’s patient care success here…

I have had a lot of inspiration from my mother who is an EMT-B and a type 2 diabetic. She has suffered from this illness since she was 13 years old.

When I was a child I had to call 911 on a weekly, sometimes daily basis, because her blood sugar would become abnormally low and she would become unresponsive. Seeing those Paramedics and EMTs helping my mom, it was from that point forward I knew I wanted to become a paramedic to help others and make a difference in someone’s time of need.

I worked for a Boston-based EMS service beginning in 2007 as an EMT Basic. In 2009, I decided to further my education and dedication to EMS and became a licensed Paramedic. I met my fiancee in Boston, who is originally from Connecticut. I wanted to be with her so I moved from my lifestyle and moved here.

During the transition, I applied to Aetna Ambulance Service and I received a call from Mark Hannegen. A few days later, I was contacted for an interview and offered a position a short time later.

I have now been working for AETNA for about six months. During this time, I have completed the North Central Medical Control precepting program, sponsored by Hartford Hospital where I was granted med control to perform as a paramedic.

So far, it has been a great road and I really enjoy working for this company and with my fellow coworkers to provide ALS to the citizens of Hartford, Wethersfield, Rocky Hill and all surrounding communities.
