Cleared for Independent Dispatch: ASM’s Jonathan Lentini Completes Precepting Phase

MANCHESTER – As of July 9, 2015, ASM’s Jonathan Lentini has been cleared by Eastern Connecticut Health Network medical control for independent dispatch as a paramedic to the towns that ASM serves.

Jon’s preceptors were Paramedic Greg Derosier and Paramedic Supervisor Vinnie Maston. The full precepting phase can take ten to 12 weeks or more as the paramedic is prepped for the realities of the field. As with all precepting phases at ASM, Jon’s final approval came from Eastern Connecticut Health Network after shadowing Jon and his preceptor in the field as they responded to emergency calls.

Jon started at ASM as an EMT-Basic in 2011 and graduated from the Capital Community College Paramedic Program.

MANCHESTER – As of January 27, 2015, ASM’s Bryan Mathiau has been cleared by Eastern Connecticut Health Network medical control for independent dispatch as a paramedic to the towns that ASM serves.

Bryan’s preceptors were Paramedic Sue Allen and Paramedic Supervisors Melissa Osborne and Vinnie Maston. The full precepting phase can take ten to 12 weeks or more as the paramedic is prepped for the realities of the field. As with all precepting phases at ASM, Bryan’s final approval came from Eastern Connecticut Health Network after shadowing Bryan and his preceptor in the field as they responded to emergency calls.

Bryan started at ASM as an EMT-Basic in 2011 and graduated from the Capital Community College Paramedic Program.

This is not only because it looks great but we are doing it to change the face of men’s health. Movember was started to raise money for the research of testicular and prostate cancer as well as mental health.

MANCHESTER – As of September 25, 2013, ASM’s Matt Traber has been cleared by Eastern Connecticut Health Network medical control for independent dispatch as a paramedic to the towns that ASM serves.

Matt’s preceptors were Paramedic Supervisors Bob O’Neil and Vinnie Maston. The full precepting phase can take ten to 12 weeks or more as the paramedic is prepped for the realities of the field. As with all precepting phases at ASM, Matt’s final approval came from Eastern Connecticut Health Network after shadowing Matt and his preceptor in the field as they responded to emergency calls.

Matt started at ASM as an EMT-Basic in 2008, has been an EMT in Connecticut since 1996 and also works for the Mohegan Tribal Fire Department. Matt graduated from the Capital Community College Paramedic Program.

ASM Provides Medical Support at Hebron’s Florida Georgia Line Concert

HEBRON — On September 8, 2013 three ambulances from the Ambulance Service of Manchester were on hand at Hebron’s 43rd Harvest Fair where country band Florida Georgia Line performed. The fair drew a record 135,000 attendees over the course of two weekends according to the Journal Inquirer.

The Hebron Lions Club contracted ASM to assist in providing medical services during the concert portion which drew over 34,000 attendees. Direction came from the Hebron Volunteer Fire Department and Windham Hospital EMS Paramedics.

His preceptors were Supervisor-Paramedics Vinnie Maston and Melissa Osborne. The full precepting phase can take ten to 12 weeks or more as the paramedic is prepped for the realities of the field. As with all precepting phases at ASM, Josh’s final approval came from Eastern Connecticut Health Network after shadowing Josh and his preceptor in the field as they responded to emergency calls.

Josh started at ASM in 1999 as a Communications Dispatcher. He obtained his EMT in 2000 and started Capital Community College’s Paramedic Program in 2011.

Vinnie Maston Lectures at the CREC Public Safety Academy

ENFIELD — On two dates this fall ASM’s Vinnie Maston will be presenting different concepts in Emergency Medical Services to the students of the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC)’s Public Safety Academy (PSA) in Enfield.

According to their website, “the PSA provides a systems-based approach curriculum to teach students the skills they will need to be community leaders and servants. This approach teaches students from diverse backgrounds to appreciate their similarities and differences while preparing them for the best colleges and success in their chosen public safety and service careers in the various communities they will serve.”

Vinnie tailored his lecture to the topic of each class throughout the day, including science, math and history.

ASM’s Vinnie Maston

At the age of 28-years-old this is my tenth year in the pre-hospital emergency medical system. I got my start at Thomaston Volunteer Ambulance Corps (TVAC) at the age of 18. Five months after joining TVAC I completed an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course and proudly acquired my EMT certification. Over the next two years as a member of TVAC I gained my EMT-Intermediate level through more education and became an advisor of TVAC’s Explorer post.

In August, 2003 I was employed by an EMS Management and Staffing Service. My role included staffing Volunteer Ambulance companies throughout the state of Connecticut. By staffing twelve different volunteer ambulance associations and receiving medical control through seven hospitals my knowledge and adaptability was expanded upon. Continue reading →

ASM Crew Makes Appearance at Washington School Fun Day

An unusual guest Paramedic treats an unusual patient at Washington School Fun Day

MANCHESTER — On June 11, 2012 a Paramedic crew from the Ambulance Service of Manchester attended Washington School’s Annual “Fun Day”. The Manchester elementary school and the PTA hold the event to celebrate the close of each school year.

ASM’s Vinnie Maston and Jason Bak were a hit last year, autographing ASM coloring books for the students and giving tours of the ambulance. This year Vinnie, a Supervisor and Paramedic returned with fellow Supervisor and Paramedic Mike Panciera.

Representatives from Manchester Police Department and Manchester Fire Rescue EMS were on hand to round out the public safety services in Manchester.

HARTFORD — On March 21st, ASM Paramedic Supervisor Vinnie Maston presented to the Greater Hartford Chapter of “Mended Hearts”. The chapter requested an speaker from the EMS community to present examples of the cutting edge technology presently in use in the field.

MANCHESTER — On February 3, 2012 Ambulance Service of Manchester crew members Vinnie Maston and Ryan McConville responded to a non-emergency transport request from a private residence within ASM’s service area.

As per normal practice for patients who request non-emergency service from their private residence, within two weeks the patient received a Patient Satisfaction Survey. The patient and her caregivers promptly sent back a glowing response on the care she received. So glowing that it needed to be shared. Continue reading →
