HARTFORD — On April 11, 2012 Aetna Ambulance Service promoted Terry Perry from within its EMT ranks to the post of Field Training Officer: FTOs are utilized primarily to train newly hired employees in the performance of their duties as EMTs.
Terry was hired by the Grady family to work for Aetna in September 2006 as an Emergency Medical Technician. He has worked in the EMS field for 16 years including in the Emergency Department at Hartford Hospital, and truly enjoys what he does. He subsequently worked for the hospital in the Continuing/EMS Education Department. Continue reading

HARTFORD — In a letter from the Central Area Health Education Center, Inc, (Central AHEC): We would like to thank you all for your collaborations, support, and efforts in helping make the City of Hartford a “HEARTSafe Community”.
With collaboration from Central AHEC and Hartford Hospital’s EMS Education Department, the City of Hartford was officially designated by the Department of Public Health as a “HEARTSafe Community” on Thursday February 23rd, 2012. Continue reading
HARTFORD — When Hartford Hospital opened their new Orange Pod within the Emergency Department, a dramatic picture by photographer Cill Russo was displayed in the main hallway.
Russo photographed the Aetna Ambulance Dodge Sprinter at night for maximum visual impact. The shot captures the intensity and urgency of emergency medicine and we were proud to be represented. Aetna has provided EMS to the south end of Hartford since 1945.

MANCHESTER — In an effort to further our use of cutting edge research in vehicle visibility design, ASM and Aetna have elected to adopt “full Battenburg” design on our newly added Mercedes Sprinter ambulances.

Since purchasing the first Dodge Sprinters from American Emergency Vehicles in 2009 we have utilized a custom-made smaller-block “Sillitoe marking” design with 4 x 4 inch retro-reflective blocks (as seen in the picture on our mast-head above).
Research has shown that larger blocks are even more effective in signaling their presense to the naked eye while the vehicle is in motion. Continue reading

HARTFORD — On Monday, December 6th, as part of Operation Walk USA, several patients from the Hartford area will receive free orthopedic services from Saint Francis Hospital’s Connecticut Joint Replacement Institute.
Frequently these patients are indigent and uninsured. In support of this worthwhile program, Aetna Ambulance Service will provide one of these patients, who cannot be transported safely by other means, with free ambulance transportation to Mt Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital for rehabilitation services. The plaque and medal for 2011 Team of the Year finalist were presented by Hartford Healthcare President Elliot Joseph and Hartford Hospital CEO Jeff Flaks at a ceremony at the hospital on November 8th.
HARTFORD – Efficient patient flow and throughput is critical to any hospital’s clinical and financial performance. Late discharge times prevent the timely transition of all Patients and the early identification of available beds, resulting in delays in appropriate Patient placement, increased length of stay, and the inefficient use of resources. MANCHESTER — Aetna and ASM took delivery of three Mercedes Sprinter Ambulances from American Emergency Vehicles (AEV) on November 4th. This is the first batch of ambulances to arrive in Manchester with the Mercedes badging since Dodge ceased production under their label. To dispel the rumors, the Mercedes version of the Sprinter ambulance is actually several thousand dollars less in original purchase price than the Dodge predecessor.
